Mount Pye (New Zealand) facts for kids
Mount Pye is a tall, rugged hill found in the southeast of New Zealand's South Island. It is the highest point in a beautiful area known as the Catlins, reaching a height of 720 meters (2,361 feet).
Where is Mount Pye?
Mount Pye is located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of a town called Gore. It helps form the border between two important regions in New Zealand: Otago and Southland. This means it sits right on the edge where these two areas meet.
Rivers of the Catlins
The slopes of Mount Pye are very important for the local environment. Many of the rivers in the Catlins area actually start their journey high up on the sides of Mount Pye. These "headwaters" are the very beginning of a river, where small streams flow together to form larger rivers that eventually reach the sea.
