Mount Victoria is a small, unincorporated community located in southern Charles County, Maryland, in the United States. It sits between two important rivers: the Wicomico River and the mighty Potomac River. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

About Mount Victoria

Mount Victoria is a quiet area in Maryland. It's not a city with a mayor or town council. Instead, it's part of the larger Charles County. People here live in homes and use services provided by the county government. It's a place known for its natural beauty, being close to two rivers.

The Story Behind the Name

Mount Victoria got its name from a very large farm. This farm was owned by a man named Robert Crain. He was a lawyer and also a farmer. His farm was huge, covering about 15,000 acres (which is over 60 square kilometers)! At the time, this was said to be the biggest private piece of land in all of Maryland.

Robert Crain's Impact

Robert Crain did more than just farm. He worked hard to convince lawmakers and officials to build the Maryland part of U.S. Highway 301. This type of effort is called "lobbying." Thanks to his work, this important highway opened in 1927. The highway helped connect different parts of the state and made travel much easier for people and goods.
