Mountain is a small, quiet community located in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States. It's not an official city or town, but a place where people live. You can find it right where two important roads, Wisconsin Highway 32 and Wisconsin Highway 64, cross paths.
In 2010, about 363 people called Mountain home. The United States Census Bureau officially calls Mountain a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for statistics, even though it doesn't have its own city government. Mountain sits about 971 feet above sea level. It covers an area of about 6.7 square miles, and all of it is land.
The Story of Mountain
The community of Mountain got its name because of the land around it. When early drivers traveled through the area, they thought the many hills looked like mountains they had to climb!
A post office was opened in Mountain in 1889. This means people could send and receive mail there. The community itself was officially mapped out and planned in 1896. The post office is still open and serving the community today.
