Mountville is a small, unincorporated community located in Loudoun County, Virginia. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government. This quiet village is nestled in the beautiful Loudoun Valley. You can find it on Snickersville Turnpike, right between the towns of Aldie and Philomont.

Discovering Mountville

Where is Mountville?

Mountville sits on a raised piece of land, almost like a small hill. It's located between two creeks: the main part of Goose Creek and a smaller stream called Beaverdam Creek. This spot is also at the western base of Catoctin Mountain.

How Mountville Got Its Name

You might think Mountville is named for being on a mountain, but it's actually named after a person! Ezekiel Mount was the first to settle here in 1797. He moved to Loudoun County from another place called Mountville in Pennsylvania. The village officially got the name Mountville in 1817. That's when a post office was opened in the village with that name.

Mountville During the Civil War

Mountville played a small part in the American Civil War. It was the location of some early fighting during a bigger event called the Battle of Unison. This battle involved skirmishes, which are small, quick fights between parts of armies.
