What is Mousercise?
Mousercise is a special program created by Disney to encourage children to exercise and have fun. It has appeared in different forms over the years, including music albums and a popular TV show.
The Original Album (1982)
The very first Mousercise was a music album released in 1982 by Disneyland Records. This album was made for children and featured many popular Disney songs. It encouraged kids to move their bodies and exercise along with the music.
The TV Show (1983-1996)
Because the album was so popular, a TV show called Mousercise was created. It started on The Disney Channel on April 18, 1983, the very day the channel launched! It was one of the first shows people could watch on Disney Channel.
The show featured Kellyn Plasschaert leading a group of kids in exercises. Of course, Mickey Mouse and other famous Disney characters often joined in the fun! There was also a part of the show with Steve Stark who taught kids about staying healthy and safe. At the end of each episode, Steve would even join Kellyn and the kids for the final exercises. The Mousercise TV show was very popular and continued to air until 1996.
The Video Release (1985)
In 1985, a video was released that was based on the popular Mousercise TV series. This allowed kids to watch and exercise along with the show at home whenever they wanted.
A New Album (2005)
Many years later, in 2005, Walt Disney Records released a brand new Mousercise exercise album for children. This album had different songs and exercises for a new generation of kids.
Mousercise in Japan (2016)
In 2016, Mousercise was advertised in Japan. This version featured updated themes, including songs and characters from Disney's Frozen. It showed that the idea of exercising with Disney characters is still popular around the world!
