Mickey Mouse is a famous cartoon character. He is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company. Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created him in 1928.
Mickey is an anthropomorphic mouse. This means he has human-like qualities. He usually wears red shorts, big yellow shoes, and white gloves. Mickey is one of the most recognized characters around the world.

The Start of Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse was created to replace an earlier Disney character. This character was called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Mickey first appeared in a short cartoon called Plane Crazy.
His public debut was in Steamboat Willie in 1928. This was one of the first cartoons with sound. Mickey went on to star in over 130 films. Some famous ones include The Band Concert (1935) and Fantasia (1940).
Mickey's Awards and Recognition
Most of Mickey's appearances were in short films. He also appeared in some full-length movies. Ten of his cartoons were nominated for an Academy Award. This award is for Best Animated Short Film.
One cartoon, Lend a Paw, won the award in 1942. In 1978, Mickey made history. He became the first cartoon character to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Mickey in Comics and TV
Mickey Mouse also became a popular comic strip character. This started in 1930. His newspaper strip ran for 45 years. Floyd Gottfredson was the main artist for this strip.
Mickey has also been in many comic books. These include Topolino and Wizards of Mickey. He has starred in TV shows too. Some popular ones are The Mickey Mouse Club (1955–1996).
You can also find Mickey in video games and merchandise. He is a popular character to meet at Disney parks.
Mickey's Friends and Personality
Mickey often appears with his girlfriend, Minnie Mouse. His pet dog is Pluto. His best friends are Donald Duck and Goofy. His main rival is Pete.
Mickey was first a bit of a mischievous character. Over time, he became known as a nice guy. He was usually seen as an honest and brave hero.
In 2009, Disney started to change his character again. They put less focus on his super friendly side. They brought back some of his more stubborn personality. This change began with the video game Epic Mickey.
Mickey's Pet Dog
Mickey Mouse has a loyal pet dog named Pluto. Pluto is a very famous Disney character himself. Pluto also has five puppies with Minnie's dog, Fifi.
