Muela de Ares facts for kids
The Muela de Ares is a special kind of mountain located in the province of Castellón, which is part of the Valencian Community in Spain. It stands tall at 1,348 meters (about 4,422 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest mountains in the Valencian Community.
In eastern Spain, people use the word Muela (or Mola in Catalan) to describe a mountain that has a flat top, like a table. The Muela de Ares is a great example of this, with a flat area on its summit that is about 2 square kilometers (about 0.77 square miles). Not far from it, about 2 kilometers away, there's another similar mountain called Muela del Vila.
Location and Surroundings
The Muela de Ares is found in the northern part of the Valencian Community. This area is known for its beautiful natural landscapes and unique mountains. The Muela de Ares and its twin, Muela del Vila, are both part of the land belonging to the small town of Ares del Maestrat.
A Special Decision
Recently, the local government of Ares del Maestrat had to make an important decision about these mountains. There was a plan to build a wind farm on the Muela de Ares and Muela del Vila. A wind farm is a place where many large wind turbines are built to create electricity from the wind. However, the people of Ares del Maestrat decided that they did not want the wind farm built on their mountains. This shows how local communities can make choices about their natural environment.
