History of Muir Beach Overlook
Muir Beach Overlook has some interesting old buildings called base-end stations. These stations were used by soldiers a long time ago. Their job was to watch ships in the ocean. They would figure out how far away ships were, how fast they were moving, and where they were going. This information helped the military know if any ships were a threat.
These stations became very important during World War II. After a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, many people in California worried about their own cities. Places like San Francisco and Los Angeles needed protection. The base-end stations helped coastal artillery units prepare to defend the coast.
Later, new technology like radar became common. Radar could do the same job much faster and more easily. Because of this, the old base-end stations were no longer needed.
