Mumiksaa (which is ᒧᒥᒃᓵ in the Inuktitut language) was once known as Frechette Island. It is a cool island located in the far north of Canada. This island is part of a huge group of islands called the Arctic Archipelago.
Mumiksaa is found in Nunavut, which is a large territory in northern Canada. It sits in a body of water known as Eclipse Sound, right where Tay Sound opens up.
Discover Mumiksaa Island
Mumiksaa is a long and narrow island. It stretches for about 1 kilometer (that's about 0.6 miles). The island is located very close to the coast of Baffin Island, which is one of the largest islands in Canada.
Where is Mumiksaa?
If you look on a map, you'll find Mumiksaa in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut. Another island, called Qimivvik, is located just to the north of Mumiksaa. These islands are in a very cold part of the world, close to the North Pole.
What's Special About It?
One interesting fact about Mumiksaa is that no one lives there. It is an uninhabited island, meaning it has no permanent residents. Many islands in the Arctic are like this because of the harsh weather and remote location.
