Fredrick Lawrence Munyua Waiyaki (born December 12, 1926 – died April 25, 2017) was an important Kenyan politician. He served his country as a minister in charge of Agriculture and later as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also a member of parliament for the Kasarani Constituency. Mr. Waiyaki was born in Nairobi, Kenya.

Early Life and First Steps in Politics

Fredrick Waiyaki first worked as a medical doctor for the Kenyan government in the 1960s. He decided to open his own clinic after less than a year. Around the same time, he started getting involved in politics. He became the District chairman for the Kenya African National Union (KANU). This was a big political party in Kenya. He held this role from 1960 to 1968.

Entering Parliament

In 1962, Fredrick Waiyaki tried to win a seat in parliament for Nairobi East. He ran against Tom Mboya but did not win that election. However, he successfully entered parliament in May 1963. He became a member of parliament for North Eastern Nairobi, which is now known as Kasarani. At the same time, he also became a permanent secretary for the Ministry of Health and Housing.

Later Years

Fredrick Waiyaki passed away on April 25, 2017. He was 90 years old. He died in a hospital in Nairobi from pneumonia.
