Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare (born December 10, 1928 – died June 15, 2024) was an important Indian politician. He was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress party. Mr. Bhandare served as a member of the Rajya Sabha, which is one of India's two main parliamentary houses. He also held the important position of Governor of Odisha. He passed away at the age of 95.

Early Life and Career
Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare was born in Mumbai, which was then part of British India. He became a lawyer, known as an advocate. He practiced law at the highest court in India, the Supreme Court of India. He was even the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association for two terms. This shows he was a respected legal expert.
Political Journey
Mr. Bhandare was a dedicated politician from Maharashtra. He was a key member of the Indian National Congress party. This party is one of the oldest and largest political parties in India.
Serving in the Rajya Sabha
The Rajya Sabha is also known as the Council of States. It is the upper house of India's Parliament. Mr. Bhandare was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha three times. He represented the state of Maharashtra. His terms were from 1980 to 1982, 1982 to 1988, and 1988 to 1994. This means he served in Parliament for a total of 14 years.
Governor of Odisha
After his time in Parliament, Mr. Bhandare took on another significant role. He was appointed as the Governor of Odisha. Odisha is a state located on the eastern coast of India.
Taking Office
He was appointed Governor on August 19, 2007. He officially took his oath and started his duties on August 21, 2007. As Governor, he worked with the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik.

During his time as Governor, he participated in important events. For example, on June 9, 2008, he marked India's 2nd National Daughters Day. This day is also known as Nandini Diwas. He continued in his role as Governor until March 9, 2013. After that, S. C. Jamir was appointed as the new Governor.
