How Murray Hill Got Its Name
Murray Hill was named by a man named Carl H. Schultz. He owned a business that made mineral water in Manhattan, New York City. In the 1880s, Mr. Schultz bought a large piece of land in this area of New Jersey.
He built a home for his family there. He also gave some land to be used for a train station. He had one condition: the area had to be called "Murray Hill" after the neighborhood in Manhattan where his business was.
