Murray Lake is a natural lake located in Kent County, Michigan. It's about 9 miles (14.5 km) from the town of Lowell, Michigan. Murray Lake is the third largest lake in Kent County. It sits in the northeast part of the county, with some of it in Grattan Township and some in Vergennes Township.
About Murray Lake
Murray Lake has been known for a long time. It appeared on official maps as early as 1837. The lake is named after a man named John Murray, who used to farm in the area around the lake.
Fun Activities at the Lake
Murray Lake is a very popular spot for both fishing and other fun activities. You can find two places to launch boats on Causeway Drive.
Fishing is great all year round! The lake has many different kinds of fish, including Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Bluegill, and Northern Pike. You might also find Pumpkinseed, Cisco, Bowfin, and Muskellunge here.
Community and Events
The Murray Lake Association helps organize fun events for the community. They have an annual chili cook-off, a 4th of July boat parade, and even a Christmas decorating contest. A school called Murray Lake Elementary opened in 2004, just a short distance from the lake.
