Murugan Idli Shop (Tamil: முருகன் இட்லி கடை) is a popular chain of restaurants. It started in the city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, India. This restaurant chain is famous for its delicious Idli. Today, Murugan Idli Shop has many locations. There are seventeen restaurants in Chennai, three in Madurai, one in Kolar, and two in Singapore.
History of Murugan Idli Shop
The restaurant chain began with a different name. It was first called "Murugan Coffee Nilayam." The very first shop in Madurai mainly served coffee, snacks, and idlis.
In 1991, a new owner took over the restaurant. They decided to change its name to Murugan Idli Shop. The new owner also made the menu much bigger. They added many more tasty dishes for customers to enjoy.
Later, in 2003, Murugan Idli Shop opened its first branch in Chennai. This helped the restaurant chain grow even more.
