The Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a cool art museum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a city on the island of Tenerife in Spain. You can find it right behind the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.

History of the Museum

This museum has a long and interesting history. It started way back in 1840. At that time, the city decided to create special boxes. These boxes were meant to keep important flags safe. The flags were from the French Revolutionary Wars.

The building itself looks very classic and grand. It was finished in early 1929. A talented architect named Eladio Laredo designed it. Outside the museum, you'll see ten different busts. These are sculptures of heads that honor famous people from Tenerife.

What You'll See Inside

The museum has fourteen different rooms. These rooms are filled with amazing art. Many of the artworks originally came from the famous Prado Museum in Madrid.

You can explore art from the 1500s all the way to the 1900s. The collection includes paintings from Flanders, sculptures, and cool crafts. One of the most special pieces is the "Tríptico de Nava y Grimón". This is a triptych, which is a painting with three parts. It was made by the Flemish painter Pieter Coecke.

You'll also see great works by other artists. These include Canarian painter Juan de Miranda. Other artists like Afonso Gaspar de Quevedo and Jose Rivera are also featured. Cristóbal Hernández de Quintana's art is also on display.
