The Museum of Carpet is a special place in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. It is a museum all about carpets and how they are made. Imagine a whole museum dedicated to the soft, colorful things we walk on every day!

Discovering the Museum of Carpet

This museum helps us learn about the amazing history of carpet making. Kidderminster has been famous for making carpets for a very long time. The museum shows how carpets were made in the past and how the industry has changed.

Why the Museum Was Created

Back in 1981, a group called the Carpet Museum Trust was formed. Their big idea was to open a public museum. They wanted to show off cool items that tell the story of carpet making in the area.

As the carpet industry changed, the Trust was able to collect many important things. They gathered old machines, tools, and records from different carpet companies in Kidderminster. This helped them save the history of carpet making.

When the Museum Opened

The Museum of Carpet officially opened its doors to the public on October 20, 2012. It was a big day for the town! Lord Cobham, who supported the museum, helped open it.

Special Exhibitions

The museum often has special shows. For example, between July 11 and September 28, 2019, they had an exhibition called 'Woven Forms: Breaking the boundaries'. This show featured the artwork of Jan Bowman. Her work had also been shown at the famous Saatchi Gallery.
