Museum of Museums facts for kids
The Museum of Museums (often called MoM) is a special place in Seattle, Washington, where you can explore modern art. It was created by an artist and curator named Greg Lundgren. A curator is someone who chooses and organizes art for a museum.
What is MoM?
MoM is not like a typical quiet museum. It's a lively art center where you can see all sorts of creative works. It's known for showing art that is new and exciting, often called contemporary art. This means art made in our time.
A Building with a Past
The Museum of Museums is located inside an old, three-story building. This building was once a medical office and storage space. It was designed by a company called NBBJ. In 2019, Greg Lundgren worked with Swedish Health Services to turn this unused building into the amazing art museum it is today. It's a great example of how old spaces can get a new life!
What You Can See and Do
MoM has a huge space, about 8,000 square feet, which is like having a very big house! Inside, you'll find many different art experiences:
- Exhibition Spaces: There are two main areas where art shows are held.
- Mini-Museums: MoM even has three smaller museums inside it! These often have unique themes.
- Changing Art: You'll see new art all the time, including installations (art setups), murals (wall paintings), and sculptures.
- Theater: There's a theater where you might catch performances or special events.
- Art Classes: MoM offers art classes every week, so you can learn to be creative too.
- Pop-Ups: These are temporary shops or exhibits that appear for a short time.
- Gift Shop: A "conceptual" gift shop means it's not just a regular store; it's part of the art experience itself!
MoM is a place where art is always changing and there's always something new to discover. It's a fun and inspiring spot for anyone interested in modern art and creativity.
