The Museum of Southern History, also known as the G. Howard Bryan Museum of Southern History, was a special place in Jacksonville, Florida. It was located on Herschel Street in Duval County, Florida. This museum helped people learn about life and culture in the southern United States a long time ago. It focused on the time before the American Civil War began.

What Was Inside the Museum?

The museum had many interesting things to see. It showed how people lived in the "Old South" before the Civil War. You could see clothing and other items from that important time in history.

A Special Flag

One very unique item in the museum was a flag. This flag had once draped the coffin of Abraham Lincoln. He was a very famous U.S. President. This special flag was put up for auction in 2024. This happened after the museum lost its building lease.

The Research Library

The Museum of Southern History also had a large research library. This library was a great place for people to learn about their family history. This is called genealogy. The library held about 5,000 books and other materials.
