The Museum of the History of Catalonia (also known as MHC) is a super cool history museum in Barcelona, Spain! It helps you learn all about the amazing history of Catalonia and its unique culture. You can find the museum in a special building called the Palau de Mar. This building used to be a big warehouse for goods coming into Barcelona's old port. It's the only old port building still standing today! The museum first opened its doors in February 1996.

Explore Catalonia's Past

The main part of the museum is called "The Memory of a Country." It's like taking a time machine through Catalonia's history! You'll travel from the very first people who lived there all the way up to modern times.

What You'll Discover

This amazing journey shows you all the important events, different cultures, and famous people who helped shape Catalonia. The exhibition is split into eight different time periods, making it easy to follow the story.

Special Exhibitions

Besides the main history tour, the museum often has special, temporary exhibitions. These shows focus on different interesting topics. For example, past exhibitions have included "Fashion and Fashion Designers" and "Beyond the Trenches (1936-1939)," which showed powerful photographs.

Free Audio Guides

To make your visit even better, the museum's website offers free audio guides. You can listen to them in different languages, like Catalan, Spanish, English, and French. This helps you understand everything you see!

How the Museum Works

The Museum of the History of Catalonia is supported by the Government of Catalonia, specifically through its Ministry of Culture. It's part of a bigger group called the Network of History Museums and Monuments of Catalonia. This network includes 11 different museums that work together.

Research and Learning

Since 1997, the museum building has also been home to the Center for Contemporary History of Catalonia. This center has a library and is a place where people can research and learn even more about Catalonia's recent history.
