What You Can See
The museum has a main exhibition called "The Memory of a Country." It takes you on a journey through Catalonia's history. You'll learn about important events, different cultures, and famous people. This journey starts from prehistoric times and goes all the way to today.
Exploring History
This big exhibition is spread across two floors of the museum. It's divided into eight different time periods. This helps you understand how Catalonia changed over many years.
Special Exhibitions
On the first floor, the museum often shows temporary exhibitions. These change regularly, so there's always something new to see. For example, in 2019, there was an exhibition about "Fashion and Fashion Designers." Another one in 2019 showed "Photographies by Alec Wainman" from 1936-1939. In 2024, they featured "Viladecans Cartells."
Audio Guides
If you visit, you can get free audio guides online. These guides help you understand the exhibitions even better. They are available in different languages, like Catalan, Spanish, English, and French.
How the Museum is Run
The Government of Catalonia is in charge of the museum. They also provide its funding through the Ministry of Culture. The museum is part of a group called the Network of History Museums and Monuments of Catalonia. This group includes 11 different museums.
Center for Contemporary History
Since 1997, the museum building has also been home to another important place. It's called the Center for Contemporary History of Catalonia. This center has its own library. The Ministry of the Presidency manages this part of the building.
