Mohammad Mustafa Amini Castillo (born on 20 April 1993), known as Mustafa Amini, is an Australian professional soccer player. He recently played for Perth Glory. Mustafa has also played for the Australian national team.
Mustafa was born in Sydney, Australia. He started playing youth soccer at the Australian Institute of Sport. Later, he began his professional career with Central Coast Mariners in Australia's top league, the A-League. In 2011, Amini signed with the famous German club Borussia Dortmund. After playing mostly for their second team, he moved to Randers FC in 2015.
Amini has played many times for Australia's youth teams. These include the U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams. He even played in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Early Life and Background
Mustafa Amini was born in Sydney, Australia. His father is from Afghanistan, and his mother is from Nicaragua. He grew up in the Western Sydney area.
Mustafa went to Wentworthville Public School and Westfields Sports High School. He later moved to Lake Ginninderra College in the ACT. This was while he played for the AIS. He finished high school in March 2010. Amini is known for his unique 'afro' haircut. He can speak both Dari and Spanish fluently.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Central Coast Mariners
Mustafa Amini played for Blacktown City before joining the AIS. The Central Coast Mariners then signed him for two years in the A-League. Amini played his first game for the senior team in a friendly match. This was against Central Coast Lightning, which the Mariners won 7–1.
His official A-League debut for the Mariners was on 20 October 2010. This game was against Brisbane Roar. He scored his first goal in a 3–1 win against Gold Coast United on 9 February 2011. Amini's great playing during the 2010–11 A-League season caught the eye of big clubs overseas. These included Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. He then had a two-week trial with Borussia Dortmund. The team's manager, Jürgen Klopp, was very impressed with him.
Time with Borussia Dortmund
On 4 July 2011, Mustafa Amini signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. However, he first went back to Central Coast Mariners on loan until May 2012. This meant he could play for the Mariners in the 2011–12 A-League season. He also played in the group stage of the Asian Champions League. He played very well as Central Coast reached the quarter-finals.
On 11 July 2012, Amini played his first game for Borussia Dortmund. It was a friendly match against SV Meppen. He even scored a goal in the 63rd minute, helping Dortmund win 2–1. Amini scored his first goal for Dortmund's second team in a game against MSV Duisburg. This was during the 2013–14 3. Liga season. In March 2015, Amini announced he would leave the club when his contract ended in June. He had been there for three years.
Playing in Denmark and Cyprus
After leaving Dortmund, Amini signed a three-year deal with Danish Superliga club Randers FC in June 2015. He scored the first goal in their 3–0 win against Sant Julià in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match.
In June 2016, Amini moved to another Superliga team, AGF, on a four-year deal. He had a great first game for AGF. He scored a goal and made an assist in a 2–1 win against SønderjyskE on 17 July 2016.
In June 2021, Amini joined Cypriot First Division team Apollon Limassol. In September 2021, he was loaned to another club in Cyprus, PAEEK. In December 2021, he ended his contract with Apollon Limassol and left both Cypriot clubs.
Return to Australia: Sydney FC and Perth Glory
On 24 December 2021, Amini signed a six-month deal with A-League Men club Sydney FC. He joined as a temporary replacement for an injured player.
On 10 June 2022, Amini signed a three-year deal with A-League Men club Perth Glory. He was named the team captain for Perth Glory on 6 October 2022. This was before the 2022–23 A-League Men season began.
Mustafa Amini's contract with Perth Glory ended on 28 December 2024. This was because of a knee injury that kept him from playing in the 2024-25 season.
International Career for Australia
Youth Teams
Mustafa Amini was first chosen to play for the Australia under-17 team in April 2009. He played against Turkey in two matches. He played his first game for the "Joeys" (the U17 team) in a 1–0 loss. He started as a defender but moved to midfield later.
Amini was then chosen for the Australia U-20 team. They went on a four-match tour in South America in April. He also played for the Australia U-20 team in the 2010 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. Amini scored his first goal for the Australia U-20 team in this championship. It was in a 4–1 win against Vietnam U-20.
Senior National Team
On 23 March 2011, Mustafa Amini was called up to the Australian national team training camp. This happened after he impressed during his trial at Borussia Dortmund. The camp was held in Germany.
Amini was considered for the Afghanistan team in 2014. However, he chose to play only for Australia if he got the chance.
Amini was called up to Australia's senior squad for the World Cup qualifiers in March 2017. He played his first game for the senior team on 28 March 2017. This was against the United Arab Emirates in Sydney. He came on as a substitute in the 87th minute.
On 20 November 2018, Amini started his first game for Australia. It was a friendly match against Lebanon in Sydney. Amini played for 74 minutes before being replaced. Australia won the match 3–0.
