Mustafa Amini, born on April 20, 1993, is an Australian soccer player. His full name is Mohammad Mustafa Amini Castillo. He recently played for Perth Glory. He has also played for the Australian national team.
Amini started playing youth soccer at the Australian Institute of Sport. He then began his professional career with Central Coast Mariners. In 2011, Amini signed with the German club Borussia Dortmund. After playing for their second team, he moved to Randers FC in 2015.
Amini has played many times for Australia's youth teams. These include the U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams. He also played in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Early Life and Background
Mustafa Amini was born in Sydney, Australia. His father is from Afghanistan, and his mother is from Nicaragua. He grew up in the Western Sydney area.
Amini went to Wentworthville Public School and Westfields Sports High School. Later, he moved to Lake Ginninderra College in the ACT. This was while he played for the AIS. He finished his Year 12 studies in March 2010. Amini is known for his unique 'afro' haircut. He can speak both Dari and Spanish.
Playing Career Highlights
Club Soccer Journey
Starting with Central Coast Mariners
Before joining the AIS, Amini played for Blacktown City. He then signed a two-year contract with the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League. Amini played his first game for the Mariners in a friendly match. This was against Central Coast Lightning, which the Mariners won 7–1.
His official A-League debut for the Mariners was on October 20, 2010. This match was against Brisbane Roar. Amini scored his first goal on February 9, 2011. It was in a 3–1 away win against Gold Coast United.
Amini's great performance in the 2010–11 A-League season caught the attention of big European clubs. These included Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. He then went for a two-week trial with Borussia Dortmund. This was before the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Borussia Dortmund's manager, Jürgen Klopp, was very impressed. He said Amini was a "really great talent."
Time with Borussia Dortmund
On July 4, 2011, Amini signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. However, he first went back to Central Coast Mariners on loan. He played for them until May 31, 2012. This allowed him to play in the 2011–12 A-League season. He also played in the group stage of the Asian Champions League. He played very well as Central Coast reached the quarter-finals.
On July 11, 2012, Amini played his first game for Borussia Dortmund. It was a friendly match against SV Meppen. He scored a goal in the 63rd minute, helping Dortmund win 2–1. Amini scored his first goal for the second team on matchday 7 of the 2013–14 3. Liga season. This was in a game against MSV Duisburg. In March 2015, Amini announced he would leave the club. His contract ended in June after three years.
Moving to Randers FC
In June 2015, Amini signed a three-year deal with Danish Superliga club Randers FC. He scored the first goal in the club's 3–0 win. This was in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match against Sant Julià.
Playing for AGF
In June 2016, Amini joined another Superliga team, AGF. He signed a four-year contract. Amini had a great first game for AGF. He scored a goal and made an assist in a 2–1 win. This was an away game against SønderjyskE on July 17, 2016.
Time in Cyprus
In June 2021, Amini joined Cypriot First Division team Apollon Limassol. He signed a two-year deal. In September 2021, Amini was loaned to PAEEK, another First Division club. By December 2021, he ended his contract with Apollon Limassol. He then left both Cypriot clubs.
Return to Australia: Sydney FC
On December 24, 2021, Amini signed a six-month deal with A-League Men club Sydney FC. He joined as a replacement for an injured player, Luke Brattan.
Captain at Perth Glory
On June 10, 2022, Amini signed a three-year deal with A-League Men club Perth Glory. He was announced as a new player just hours after the club released a statement. This statement said that former Glory captain, Brandon O'Neill, had left the club early.
Amini was named team captain for Perth Glory. This happened on October 6, 2022, before the 2022–23 A-League Men season. Amini did not play in the 2024-25 season due to a knee injury. His contract with Perth Glory ended on December 28, 2024.
International Career
Youth Teams
Amini was first chosen for the Australia under-17 team. This was to play against Turkey in April 2009. He played his first game for the "Joeys" in a 1–0 loss. He started as a defender but moved to midfield later.
Amini was also chosen to play for the Australia U-20 team. This was for a tour in South America in April. He played against the Argentina U-20 and Paraguay U-20 teams. He then played for the Australia U-20 again in the 2010 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. Amini scored his first goal for the Australia U-20 in a 4–1 win against Vietnam U-20.
Senior National Team
On March 23, 2011, Amini was called up to the Australian national team training camp. This happened after he impressed during his trial at Borussia Dortmund. The Head Coach, Holger Osieck, held the camp in Germany.
Amini was considered for the Afghanistan squad in 2014. This was for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup. However, he said he only wanted to play for Australia if he had the chance.
Amini was called up to Australia's senior squad in March 2017. This was for World Cup qualifiers. He made his debut on March 28, 2017. This was against the United Arab Emirates at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. He came on as a substitute in the 87th minute.
On November 20, 2018, Amini started his first game for Australia. This was a friendly match against Lebanon at Stadium Australia, Sydney. He played for 74 minutes before being replaced. Australia won the match 3–0.
