Muzion was a Canadian rap group. They formed in 1996. The group was made up of rap artists from Haitian families. They lived in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension area of Montreal. The main members were Dramatik, Imposs (whose real name is Stanley Rimsky Salgado), and his sister J-Kyll. After Muzion, Imposs started his own music career. He released his first solo album, Mon Poing D'Vue, in 2007.
Their Music Journey
Muzion was a very important group in Montreal's music scene. They won the Félix Award twice. This award is given at the ADISQ gala for the Best Hip Hop Album of the Year. They won in 2000 for their first album, Mentalité Moune Morne… (Ils n'ont pas compris). They won again in 2003 for their second album, J'Rêvolutionne.
Their albums were also popular in France. Because of this, Muzion went on tour there. They performed with IV My People, a group connected to the famous NTM band. They even played at the Zenith in Paris, a very big concert hall.
Muzion also worked with the famous musician Wyclef Jean. They collaborated on his French song called 24 Heures à vivre.
Awards and Recognition
Muzion received several awards and nominations for their music:
- They won "Album of the Year - Hip Hop" for Mentalité Moune Morne at the ADISQ Awards in 2000.
- They were nominated for "Songwriter of the Year" at the ADISQ Awards in 2000.
- They were also nominated for "Group of the Year" at the ADISQ Awards in 2000.
- They won "Album of the Year - Hip Hop" again for J'Rêvolutionne at the ADISQ Awards in 2003.
- They won the "Best Francophone Recording Award" at the Canadian Urban Music Awards in 2004.
Live Performances
Muzion performed many shows all across Canada. Their most memorable concerts were in Quebec and in Paris, France. They also played at several popular festivals. These included Coup de Coeur Francophone in 1999. They performed at Les FrancoFolies de Montréal three times: in 1999, 2001, and 2002. They also played at the Festival d'été de Québec in 2000.
In 2014, the group reunited for a special show. This was to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their album Mentalité Moune Morne. The show also honored Le Voyou, an influential rapper from Dynastie des Morniers. On July 26, 2019, their first album was re-released on vinyl. This marked its 20th anniversary.
