Myarth is a hill located in the beautiful Usk Valley in South Wales. It's found in the county of Powys, about 2 miles west of a town called Crickhowell.
This hill stands at about 292 meters (958 feet) tall. The very top of Myarth is covered with trees, and most of its sides are also wooded. Myarth is known as a Marilyn, which is a special term for a hill in the British Isles that is at least 150 meters (about 492 feet) higher than the land around it.
How Myarth Was Formed
Myarth has a long, stretched-out shape. Scientists believe this shape was created by powerful glaciers during past ice ages. A huge glacier, like a giant river of ice, moved from west to east through the Usk Valley. As it moved, it slowly carved and shaped the land, including Myarth.
The River Usk flows right along the southern base of the hill. Myarth is a very noticeable landmark in the Usk Valley. Because it looks so impressive, you'll often see it in photos taken to promote the area.
Visiting Myarth
Even though public roads surround Myarth, there is no public way to access the hill itself. The A40 road runs along its northern side, and a smaller road is on its southern side. However, the land is privately owned, meaning it belongs to someone and is not open for everyone to visit.
Myarth in Pop Culture
In 2016, Myarth hill was used as a filming location for a popular TV show. It appeared in a part of an episode of the car series The Grand Tour.
