Mácher is a small village on the sunny Spanish island of Lanzarote. It's part of the Tías area.

Mácher is home to about 1,065 people. You can find it on the southern part of Lanzarote island. It's about 14 kilometers (around 9 miles) from the capital city, Arrecife. The airport is also quite close, only about 9 kilometers (around 5.5 miles) away.

The village is spread out, with homes on both sides of the main road that connects Arrecife, Yaiza, and Playa Blanca. Mácher is also very near popular tourist spots like Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero. Puerto del Carmen is only about 2 miles away.

In the past, people in Mácher mostly grew vegetables like tomatoes and onions. Onions were grown north of the road, and tomatoes to the south. Today, most people in Mácher work in tourism or other services, helping visitors enjoy the island.

The name "Mácher" might have come from an old Italian word, "Maschera." Over time, it changed to "Mácheres" and then finally to "Mácher."

Fun Things to See in Mácher

Mácher has some interesting places to explore. You can see old houses that are many centuries old. There's also the Molina de Macher, which is a historic mill.

For nature lovers, there are two cool mountains nearby. One is Guardilama, which is the third highest mountain on Lanzarote. The other is Tinasoria mountain. Tinasoria is a popular spot for exciting sports like paragliding and hang gliding, especially near the massif (a group of mountains) called Famara.

The village celebrates its special day for its patron saint, St. Peter, every year on June 29. It's a fun festival for everyone!
