Mönchaltorf has a long and interesting past. It was first mentioned in old writings way back in 741 AD. At that time, it was known as Villa Altorf. This means "village of Altorf." Later, in 872 AD, it was called Altorf monachorum. This name means "Altorf of the monks," suggesting it might have been connected to a monastery or monks living there.
