Néris-les-Bains is a small town in the heart of France. It's known for its natural hot springs. People have been coming here for thousands of years to enjoy the warm, healing waters. The town has a population of about 2,700 people. It sits at an elevation of around 360 meters (1,180 feet) above sea level.
A Town with Ancient Roots
Néris-les-Bains has a very long and interesting history. It was once a significant Roman town called Aquae Neri. The Romans loved to build baths, and they found the perfect spot here. They built large thermal baths and temples. You can still see parts of these ancient Roman structures today. The town was also home to the Bituriges Cubi, an ancient Celtic tribe, before the Romans arrived.
Relaxing at the Thermal Baths
The main attraction in Néris-les-Bains is its thermal baths, or "thermes." These baths use natural hot spring water. This water is believed to have special healing properties.
