Níjar is a town in Spain. It is located in the province of Almería, which is part of the Andalusia region. Níjar is in the eastern part of Almería. It is near the Sierra de Alhamilla mountains and the sunny Mediterranean Sea coast. The town is also close to the beautiful Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park.
Níjar is a very large area, covering almost 600 square kilometers. This makes it one of the biggest municipalities in Spain. In 2002, about 17,824 people lived there. Most people live in the towns of Campohermoso, San Isidro, and Níjar.
