Nadia Evadne Cattouse (born November 2, 1924 – died October 29, 2024) was an amazing actress, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Belize but became famous in Britain.
Nadia started acting on TV in 1954. She is well known for her roles in many British TV shows. These include Angels, Play for Today, Crown Court, and Dixon of Dock Green.

Her Early Life and Career
Nadia Evadne Cattouse was born in Belize City on November 2, 1924. Her father, Albert Cattouse, worked for the government. He later became like a vice-leader for British Honduras, which is now Belize.
In 1943, during World War II, Nadia came to Britain. She volunteered and trained in Edinburgh, Scotland. She learned to be a signals operator, helping with communications. She also taught physical training part-time.
Later, she went to a college in Glasgow to become a teacher. After finishing her studies, she returned to British Honduras. There, she was the headmistress of a school. She also taught other teachers about educating young children.
Nadia came back to Britain in 1951. She studied social sciences at the London School of Economics. To pay for her studies, she did some acting and singing. Her TV career began in 1954. She appeared in award-winning TV shows like Freedom Road: Songs of Negro Protest. She also performed on stage in a play called The Blacks.
As a folk singer, Nadia had popular songs like "Long Time Boy" and "Red and Green Christmas". In the 1960s, she sang at famous folk clubs in London. She also appeared on BBC TV music shows. People called her "one of the giants of the folk-song revival in Britain." Her album Earth Mother came out in 1970.
Nadia is most remembered for her acting. She played roles in many British TV programmes. Some of these were Angels, Play for Today, and Johnny Jarvis.
Her Family Life and Passing
Nadia Cattouse married David Lindup in 1958. He was a composer and arranger. Their son, Mike Lindup, is a talented keyboard player. He is part of the jazz-funk band Level 42. Nadia passed away in London on October 29, 2024. She was 99 years old.
Awards and Recognition
In September 2009, Nadia received a special award. It was the Meritorious Service Award from the Government of Belize. This award recognized her efforts. She helped Belizean and other Caribbean people in the UK. She raised their awareness about social, cultural, and political topics.
