Nadine Trintignant directed her first short film in 1965. It was called Fragilité, ton nom est femme. Two years later, she wrote and directed Mon amour, mon amour. This was a drama about a young woman's love story. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or award at the 1967 Cannes Film Festival. This is a very important award in the film world.

After her daughter Pauline passed away in 1970, Trintignant made a film about her personal sadness. The 1971 film was called Ça n’arrive qu’aux autres. It starred famous actors Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni. They played a couple dealing with the death of their baby daughter. Trintignant used parts of her own life in the film. She included her older daughter Marie in some scenes. She even used real pictures and videos of her daughter Pauline.

Trintignant continued to make films in the 1970s. These included Défense de savoir (1973) and Le Voyage de noces (1976).
