Naina Yeltsina, born Anastasia Iosifovna Girina on March 14, 1932, is an important figure in Russian history. She is the widow of Boris Yeltsin, who was the first President of Russia. Naina Yeltsina served as the First Lady of Russia from 1991 to 1999, during her husband's time in office.
Early Life and Studies
Naina Yeltsina was born in a place called Orenburg Oblast in Russia in 1932. She went to college at the Ural Polytechnic Institute in Sverdlovsk. She studied construction and graduated in 1955. After finishing her studies, she worked on different building projects.
Family Life
In 1956, Naina married Boris Yeltsin. They had met while studying at the Sverdlovsk institute. The couple moved to Moscow in 1985. They have two daughters named Yelena and Tatyana. Yelena was born in 1957, and Tatyana was born in 1960.
Role as First Lady
Naina Yeltsina was not often seen in public during her time as First Lady. She sometimes traveled with her husband on his trips to other countries. For example, she visited Sweden and Finland in 1997. She also went to China in 1999.
Naina Yeltsina usually did not get involved in her husband's political work. However, during the 1996 election, she did meet with voters. She also gave interviews to the media to support her husband. In April 2007, she made a big public appearance. This was at her husband's state funeral in Moscow.
Later Years
In 2017, Naina Yeltsina released her autobiography. An autobiography is a book about a person's own life. She launched her book at the Yeltsin Center and also in Moscow.
