Nakaaya is the oldest of five children. Her younger sister, Nancy Sumari, even won Miss Tanzania in 2005. She was also named Miss World Africa.
Early Steps in Music
Nakaaya became well-known after joining a TV show called "Tusker Project Fame." This was a reality TV show for singers in the African Great Lakes region. It aired from October to December 2006.
On the show, singers from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania lived together. They received training in the music business. Nakaaya stayed on the seven-week program for five weeks.
Her First Album
After the TV show, Nakaaya went back to Tanzania. She worked hard to record her first music album.
In February 2008, she released her first album, Nervous Conditions. This album was released by herself. It sold very well, even though it was only available on CD.
The first song from the album, "Malaika," was popular on the radio. But her next song, "Mr. Politician," became a huge hit. It was popular all over the African Great Lakes region. The music video for "Mr. Politician" was played often. This made Nakaaya very famous. The song "Mr. Politician" talks about leaders and how they should help people.

Nakaaya has also worked as a goodwill Ambassador. She represented the East African Community. This role means she helps promote good relationships and understanding.
