Nando Yosu was a famous Spanish football player and coach. His real name was Fernando Trío Zabala. He was born on July 8, 1939, and passed away on February 20, 2016. Nando Yosu spent most of his football life with the Racing de Santander team, both as a player and later as a coach.

Nando Yosu's Playing Career

Nando Yosu was born in Mungia, a town in the Basque Country, Spain. He played professional football for about ten years. He was a midfielder, which is a player who helps both in defense and attack.

He played in 122 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. During his playing career, he was part of several well-known teams. These included Racing de Santander, Valencia CF, Athletic Bilbao, and Pontevedra CF.

Nando Yosu stopped playing football in 1972 when he was only 31 years old. Before he retired, he also played for CF Calvo Sotelo in the Segunda División (second division) and Gimnástica de Torrelavega in the Tercera División (third division).

One of his notable moments as a player was when he scored two goals for Valencia against FC Barcelona. This happened in the 1962 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final. Valencia won that match 6–2 at home.

Nando Yosu's Coaching Career

Right after he stopped playing, Nando Yosu started coaching. His first coaching job was with his last team, Gimnástica. Even though he didn't have the official coaching license at first, he was very dedicated.

Later, he returned to his main club, Racing de Santander. He started by coaching their youth teams, helping young players develop their skills.

Coaching Racing de Santander

From 1977 to 1979, Nando Yosu was the main coach for Racing de Santander. He worked with the club in many different roles over the years. He was a match delegate, which means he helped manage things during games. He also served as a director of football, helping to make big decisions about the team.

Nando Yosu became an interim manager for Racing de Santander five times. An interim manager is someone who takes over temporarily when the main coach leaves. Each time, he successfully helped the team avoid being moved down to a lower league. This showed how good he was at motivating players and getting results, especially when the team was in a tough spot.

Later Life and Legacy

In March 2007, the government of Cantabria honored Nando Yosu. They recognized his important contributions to football in the region. He finally retired from football completely in January 2009. His last role was as Racing's director of football.

Nando Yosu passed away in Santander on February 20, 2016, at the age of 76. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He is remembered as a true legend of Spanish football, especially for his strong connection to Racing de Santander.
