Nanson, North Dakota facts for kids
Nanson is a small, quiet place in Rolette County, North Dakota. It is what's called an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
Nanson's Past
Nanson was first planned and settled in 1905. In that same year, a post office opened there. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This one stayed open for a long time, until 1982.
The community got its name from a famous person. He was Fridtjof Nansen, a scientist and explorer from Norway.
Over the years, fewer and fewer people lived in Nanson. By the 1960s, only a few families were left. By the 1990s, everyone had moved away. Nanson became what people call a "ghost town." Today, if you visit, you will only see old, empty houses and buildings. They are a reminder of the community that once was.
