Naomi van As (born July 26, 1983) is a famous Dutch field hockey player. She played as a forward or midfielder for the Dutch club MHC Laren.

Naomi was a key player for the Netherlands national team. She made her first appearance on June 20, 2003. This game was against South Africa.

Her Amazing Hockey Career

Naomi van As had a very successful career in field hockey. She helped her team win many important championships. For example, she was part of the Dutch team that won the 2006 Women's Hockey World Cup. They also won the Champions Trophy in 2007.

Olympic Gold Medals

Naomi is well-known for her success at the Olympic Games.

  • At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, her team won a gold medal. Naomi scored the first goal in their 2–0 win against China.
  • She won another gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Her team was once again the best in the women's field hockey tournament.
  • Her international career ended at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Her team played in the final, but they lost in a penalty shootout to Great Britain.

Naomi was recognized as the best player in the world twice. She was named FIH Player of the Year in both 2009 and 2016.

Special Recognition

In 2012, Naomi received a special honor. She was made a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau. This award is given to people who have achieved great things for the Netherlands. She received it after her team won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.

Life Outside Hockey

Since 2007, Naomi van As has been in a relationship with Sven Kramer. He is a famous long-track speed skater. They have two children together. Their daughter was born in 2018, and their son was born in 2022.
