Nary is located right along the Paul Bunyan State Trail, which used to be a railroad track. The main office for Helga Township is also found in Nary.

Nary had a post office that opened in 1899. A post office is where people send and receive mail. This first post office closed in 1917. It then reopened for a short time in 1918. However, it closed permanently in 1924.

The community of Nary was named after a person. His name was Thomas J. Nary. He was a businessperson who worked in the lumber industry. The lumber industry is all about cutting down trees and turning them into wood for building and other uses.
