Early Life and Education
Nasra Agile was born in Somalia. Later, she and her family moved to Canada. When she was a teenager, Nasra started many projects to help her community. She organized fun programs for young people. These included workshops to learn survival skills. She also put together educational plays and sports activities.
Studying Civil Engineering
For her college education, Nasra studied civil engineering at Ryerson University in Toronto. Civil engineering is about designing and building things like roads, bridges, and buildings. She graduated with high honors in 2005. She earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Nasra was one of the top students in her class. She is also known as one of the first women of Somali background to get an engineering degree in Canada. She received a special award for her excellent grades.
Career Highlights
Nasra Agile started her engineering career working for the City of Toronto. She was a road inspector for their Transportation Services department. This job involved checking roads to make sure they were safe and well-built.
Working in Dubai
After two years, Nasra moved to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai was becoming a major center for building new and exciting real estate projects. In 2007, Nasra joined Cansult. This was a Canadian engineering company based in Dubai. It was one of the biggest engineering companies in the Middle East. Later, she advised another large real estate company called Nakheel Properties. She also worked as a Senior Traffic Engineer for the Dubai Municipality. Her role was to help manage roads and traffic flow in the city.
Returning to Somalia
In 2012, Nasra Agile decided to return to Somalia. She wanted to help rebuild her home country after a long period of conflict. When she returned, she opened Somalia's very first dollar store. A dollar store sells many different items at very low prices. This business helped provide affordable goods to people in Somalia.
Awards and Recognition
Nasra Agile has received several important awards for her work and achievements.
Community Service Awards
She was given The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Canada. This award recognizes young people who have made a difference in their communities. The Governor General of Canada presented her with this honor.
Academic Achievements
Nasra also earned many awards for her excellent school performance. While she was a student, she received the Golden Key International Honour Society Award. This award is given to students who show outstanding academic success.
