A Look at NCHU's History
National Chung Hsing University started a long time ago in 1919. It was first known as the Advanced Academy of Agronomy and Forestry. This school was located in Tainan.
Over the years, the school changed its name and moved. In 1943, it became an independent school and moved to Taichung. After Taiwan was handed over to the Republic of China in 1945, the school became Taichung Agricultural Junior College.
It grew bigger and became Taichung College of Agriculture in 1946. In 1961, it joined with new colleges for science, engineering, law, and business. At that time, it was named Chung Hsing University. Finally, in 1971, it became a national university and was given its current name, National Chung Hsing University.
Exploring the NCHU Campus
The main campus of NCHU is in the southern part of Taichung City. It covers a large area, about 53 hectares. This campus is home to many different colleges. These include colleges for liberal arts, agriculture, science, engineering, and even veterinary medicine.
NCHU also has special areas outside the main campus. It owns four experimental forests in different parts of Taiwan. These forests are used for research and learning about nature. The university also has two experimental farms in Taichung City. These farms help students learn about farming and natural resources.
How NCHU is Organized
NCHU is made up of ten different colleges. Each college focuses on a specific area of study. For example, there are colleges for:
- Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

- Life Sciences
- Management
- Science
- Veterinary Medicine
International Connections
NCHU works with other universities around the world. It has special partnerships with universities in Australia, like the University of Tasmania and Deakin University. These connections help students and teachers share knowledge and learn from each other.
NCHU also takes part in a program called the Taiwan International Graduate Program. This program helps students from different countries study advanced topics in agriculture and biology.
