The path was opened in 2009 after being built for four years.

Exploring the NCR 756 Route

Starting Point: Kelvindale to Kelvingrove Park

The NCR 756 adventure begins in Kelvindale. Here, it connects with another path, National Cycle Route 754, near the Kelvin Aqueduct. You'll follow the Kelvin Walkway/Cycleway. This part of the path takes you past interesting places like Maryhill, Kirklee, the beautiful Botanic Gardens, and Kelvinbridge. It finally leads you to the lovely Kelvingrove Park.

Journeying from Kelvingrove to Anderston

After Kelvingrove Park, the path joins the Sustrans Connect2 Glasgow route. This section leads you to Anderston Cross. You will pass the end of the Anderston Bridge. Then, you cross the Stobcross Bridge, which is right next to it. From there, the path goes down to Anderston Quay, right by the water.

From Anderston to Shawfield

Between Anderston Quay and Glasgow Green, the NCR 756 follows another path, National Cycle Route 75. After this, it crosses the Polmadie Bridge. This bridge takes you into Richmond Park, a nice green space.

Through Shawfield to Cathkin

From Richmond Park, the route goes past Shawfield Stadium. It then follows the Glasgow Road area. Next, the path goes through the centre of Rutherglen town. It runs to the east of Mill Street and passes through Overtoun Park. Finally, it climbs up to an area called Cathkin.

Continuing from Cathkin to Nerston

From Cathkin, the NCR 756 runs right next to the A749 dual carriageway. A dual carriageway is a road with two lanes going in each direction, separated by a barrier. This part of the path takes you to Nerston.

The Final Stretch: Nerston to East Kilbride

From Nerston, the path goes around the edge of Kingsgate Retail Park. Then, it heads down Mavor Avenue. Here, it joins an old railway line. The path follows this old railway line towards East Kilbride Village. The NCR 756 officially ends at the railway station in East Kilbride.
