History of the Museum
The story of museums in Mongolia began a long time ago. The very first museum in the country opened in 1924. It was called the Mongolian National Museum. Today, that museum is known as the Mongolian Natural History Museum.
The building where the National Museum of Mongolia is now located was built in 1971. Back then, it was called the Museum of Revolution. In April 2008, its name was changed to the National Museum of Mongolia.

The National Museum of Mongolia is the biggest museum in the country. It has more than 57,000 historical items! These items tell the story of Mongolia from ancient times all the way to the end of the 20th century.
You can explore ten different rooms filled with exhibits. These exhibits cover many exciting topics, including:
