The National Postal Museum is a cool place in Washington, D.C. It's the main museum in the United States that focuses on mail and its history. Famous Stamp Collections
In 2005, the museum got the stamp collection of John Lennon. He was a famous singer from The Beatles. From June 2015 to December 2019, the museum showed the 1856 British Guiana 1c magenta. This is the most valuable stamp in the world! It sold for almost $10 million.
In 2009, a person named William H. Gross gave the museum $8 million. This money helped make the museum even bigger. A special stamp gallery is named after him.
Museum Awards
Since 2002, the museum has given out an award every two years. It's called the Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Award. This award honors people who have done great things in the world of stamps.
