Historic Bridges of Clearfield County
Clearfield County has some cool old bridges that are part of its history.
Greenwood Township Bridge
This bridge was built in 1892. It was a type of bridge called a Pratt through truss bridge. It crossed the West Branch Susquehanna River in Greenwood Township. Sadly, this historic bridge has been taken down.
Westover Borough Bridge
Built in 1917, this bridge is an "open-spandrel arch bridge." It crosses Chest Creek in Westover. It's a great example of bridge building from that time.
Hogback Bridge
The Hogback Bridge was a Pennsylvania (petit) truss bridge built in 1893. It also crossed the West Branch Susquehanna River in Lawrence Township. Like the Greenwood Township Bridge, this historic structure is no longer there, replaced by a newer bridge.
McGees Mills Covered Bridge
This is a really neat covered bridge! It's 109 feet long and was built way back in 1873. You can find it west of Mahaffey in Bell Township. Covered bridges are special because they are becoming rare.
Important Buildings and Districts
Many buildings and even whole areas in Clearfield County are recognized for their historical importance.
Clearfield Armory
The Clearfield Armory is a brick building that dates back to 1938. It's located on Coal Hill Road in Lawrence Township. An armory is a place where military groups train and store equipment.
Clearfield County Courthouse
The county courthouse is a very important building where legal matters are handled. The Clearfield County Courthouse was built in 1860. It's located at 2nd and Market Streets in Clearfield. It's a grand building that shows the history of the county's government.
Commercial Hotel (DuBois)
This four-story brick building in DuBois was built in 1889. It used to be a hotel and also includes the Harris-DuBois Theater. It's located at Long and Brady Avenues.
Dimeling Hotel
Another historic hotel, the Dimeling Hotel in Clearfield, is a seven-story building. It was constructed between 1904 and 1905. You can find it at 2nd and Market Streets.
Irvin-Patchin House
This brick house in Burnside was first built in 1850 by an early settler named William Irvin. It's located on Main Street and is a great example of early homes in the area.
Thomas Murray House
The Thomas Murray House in Clearfield is an Italianate-style brick home built in 1876. It's located at 120 South 2nd Street. Italianate is a type of architectural style that was popular in the mid-1800s.
Joseph F. and Anna B. Schrot Farm
This historic farm is located at 880 Carbon Mine Road in Lawrence Township. It was added to the National Register in 2011, recognizing its importance to the area's farming history.
St. Severin's Old Log Church
This unique Roman Catholic church was built by German settlers around 1851. It's a log church, which means it was built using logs. You can find it west of Cooper Settlement, off Pennsylvania Route 53 in Cooper Township. It's a wonderful example of early pioneer craftsmanship.

Coalport Historic District
This district is located along Main Street in Coalport, roughly from Mill to Walnut Streets. Historic districts help preserve the look and feel of old towns.
DuBois Historic District
The DuBois Historic District includes areas along North and South Brady Streets, and East and West Long Avenues in DuBois. This district helps protect the historic character of the town's center.
Old Town Historic District (Clearfield)
In Clearfield, the Old Town Historic District follows an irregular pattern along Front Street. This area likely contains some of the oldest buildings and streets in the town.

S.B. Elliott State Park Day Use District
This part of S. B. Elliott State Park is about 9 miles north of Clearfield on Pennsylvania Route 153 in Pine Township. It's recognized for its historic "day use" areas, which might include old picnic pavilions or other structures built for visitors.
S.B. Elliott State Park Family Cabin District
Also in S. B. Elliott State Park, this district contains historic family cabins. These cabins were often built by groups like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression, providing jobs and creating park facilities.
Parker Dam State Park Family Cabin District
Similar to S.B. Elliott, Parker Dam State Park also has a historic Family Cabin District. It's about 5 miles south of Penfield off Pennsylvania Route 153 in Huston Township. These cabins offer a glimpse into how people enjoyed parks in the past.
Parker Dam State Park-Octagonal Lodge
Within Parker Dam State Park, there's a unique building called the Octagonal Lodge. It's shaped like an octagon (an eight-sided figure). This lodge is also a historic structure in the park.
Parker Dam State Park-Parker Dam District
This district includes the historic areas around the dam itself in Parker Dam State Park. Dams can be important historical structures, showing engineering and construction methods from different eras.
Former Listing
Sometimes, a place that was once on the National Register of Historic Places is removed. This usually happens if the building is destroyed or changed so much that it loses its historic value.
DuBois Mansion
The DuBois Mansion in DuBois was once a beautiful historic home. It was built in 1875 and later remodeled in 1902 to look like a Tudor-style building. After 1934, it became part of the Penn State Campus. Sadly, a frozen and burst water pipe caused a lot of damage, and even though people tried to save it, the mansion was torn down in 1978. The site is now part of the Penn State DuBois campus and the DuBois Area High School.
