Special Places in Richmond County

Richmond County is home to many historic treasures. Each one has a unique story! Here are some of the cool places you can find on the National Register:

  • Farnham Church: This historic church is located in Farnham, Virginia. It was added to the list in 1973. Churches like this often have long histories and beautiful old architecture.
  • Grove Mount: You can find Grove Mount near Warsaw, Virginia. It became a listed site in 1991. Many old homes in Virginia have interesting stories about the families who lived there.
  • Indian Banks: This historic place is in Simonson, Virginia. It was listed in 1980. Sometimes, the exact address of a historic home is kept private to protect it.
  • Linden Farm: North of Farnham, Linden Farm joined the list in 1977. It's another example of the beautiful old farms and estates in the area.
  • Menokin: This is a really important place near Warsaw, Virginia, listed in 1969. Menokin is special because it's a National Historic Landmark. A Place That Was Lost

Sometimes, even historic places can be damaged or destroyed. There was one property in Richmond County called Bladensfield that was once on the National Register. It was near Warsaw, Virginia and was listed in 1980. Sadly, Bladensfield was destroyed by a fire in November 1996. Because it was no longer there, it was removed from the list in 2001. It's a reminder of why we try to protect these important places.
