The National Register of Historic Places is like a special club for places that are worth saving and learning about. When a place is added to this list, it helps protect it and makes sure future generations can enjoy its history. In Tarrant County, there are 23 historic areas (called "districts") and 90 individual buildings or sites on this list. Some of these places are also recognized by Texas as "State Antiquities Landmarks" or "Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks," which means they are extra special to the state's history.

  • You can find this historic aviation building at 201 Aviation Way. It was recognized on April 16, 2008, for its role in early air travel.

• Neil P. Anderson Building (Fort Worth)
  • This building at 411 W. 7th St. became historic on March 8, 1978. It's a notable part of Fort Worth's downtown.

• Arlington Post Office (Arlington)

• Buchanan-Hayter-Witherspoon House (Mansfield)
  • Another historic home in Mansfield, this house at 306 E. Broad St. was listed on May 22, 2003. It's also part of the Mansfield historic properties.

  • This building at 500-502 Main St. was added on November 12, 1980.

• Butler Place Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This historic area in Fort Worth was listed on August 4, 2011. It's roughly located near Luella St. and I-35 West.

• Central Handley Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This district, roughly bounded by E. Lancaster Ave. and Handley Dr., became historic on January 17, 2002.

• Lester H. and Mabel Bryant Chorn House (Mansfield)
  • This house at 303 E. Broad St. in Mansfield was listed on May 22, 2003, as part of the Mansfield historic properties.

• Lily B. Clayton Elementary School (Fort Worth)
  • This school at 2000 Park Place Ave. was recognized on January 17, 2017.

• Cotton Belt Railroad Industrial Historic District (Grapevine)
  • This historic area along the railroad tracks in Grapevine was listed on September 4, 1997. It tells the story of the railroad's importance.

• Eddleman-McFarland House (Fort Worth)
  • This house at 1110 Penn St. was added on October 18, 1979.

• Eighth Avenue Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This district, bounded by 8th Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave., became historic on November 21, 2006.

  • The Electric Building at 410 W. 7th St. was listed on February 10, 1995.

• Elizabeth Boulevard Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This historic area, including 1001-1616 Elizabeth Blvd., was recognized on November 16, 1979.

• Fairmount-Southside Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This large historic district, roughly bounded by Magnolia and Hemphill, was listed on April 5, 1990. It had a boundary increase on May 12, 1999.

• Farmers and Mechanics National Bank (Fort Worth)
  • This bank building at 714 Main St. became historic on December 4, 2012. Today, it is the main office for XTO Energy.

• First Christian Church (Fort Worth)
  • The church at 612 Throckmorton St. was added on October 6, 1983.

• First National Bank Building (Fort Worth)
  • This bank building at 711 Houston St. was listed on December 3, 2009.

• Flatiron Building (Fort Worth)
  • The unique Flatiron Building at 1000 Houston St. was recognized on March 31, 1971.

• Fort Worth Botanic Garden (Fort Worth)
  • The beautiful Fort Worth Botanic Garden at 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd. was listed on January 29, 2009.

• Fort Worth Club Building-1916 (Fort Worth)
  • This club building at 608-610 Main St. became historic on February 12, 1998.

• Fort Worth Elks Lodge 124 (Fort Worth)
  • The Elks Lodge at 512 W. 4th St. was added on February 16, 1984.

• Fort Worth High School (Fort Worth)
  • This historic school at 1015 S. Jennings Ave. was listed on December 12, 2002.

• Fort Worth Public Market (Fort Worth)
  • The Public Market at 1400 Henderson St. was recognized on January 5, 1984.

• Fort Worth Recreation Building (Fort Worth)
  • This building at 215 West Vickery Boulevard was added on June 13, 2014.

• Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This famous district, roughly bounded by 23rd and Houston Sts., was listed on June 29, 1976. It's a key part of Fort Worth's cowboy history.

  • The courthouse at 501 W. 10th St. was recognized on April 25, 2001.

• Fort Worth Warehouse and Transfer Company Building (Fort Worth)
  • This building at 201 S. Calhoun St. was added on March 27, 2013.

• Fortune Arms Apartments (Fort Worth)
  • These apartments at 601 W. 1st St. became historic on June 7, 2016.

  • This house at 9608 Heron Dr. was listed on August 28, 2012.

  • This district, roughly along Grand Ave., was recognized on March 1, 1990.

  • This commercial district in Grapevine, mainly on S. Main St., was listed on March 9, 1992. It had boundary increases in 1997 and 2002.

• James E. Guinn School (Fort Worth)
  • This school at 1200 South Freeway was added on May 12, 1998.

• Gulf, Colorado and Sante Fe Railroad Passenger Station (Fort Worth)
  • This historic train station at 1601 Jones St. was listed on October 15, 1970.

• Henderson Street Bridge (Fort Worth)
  • This bridge over the Clear Fork of the Trinity River was recognized on March 21, 2011.

• Heritage Park Plaza (Fort Worth)
  • Located at W Bluff St at Main St, this plaza became historic on May 10, 2010.

• Alexander Hogg School (Fort Worth)
  • This school at 900 St. Louis Ave. was listed on December 12, 2002.

• Hotel Texas (Fort Worth)
  • The famous Hotel Texas at 815 Main St. was added on July 3, 1979. An annex was included in 2014.

  • This house at 3 Chase Ct. was added on May 10, 1984.

  • This building at 315 Main St. was recognized on April 28, 1970.

  • The Kress Building at 604 Main St. was listed on April 4, 2007.

• Leuda-May Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This district, including parts of W. Leuda and May Sts., was added on March 30, 2005.

• Ralph Sandiford and Julia Boisseau Man House (Mansfield)
  • This house at 604 W. Broad St. in Mansfield was listed on May 22, 2003, as part of the Mansfield historic properties.

• Marine Commercial Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This commercial district, mainly on N. Main St., was recognized on February 9, 2001.

• Markeen Apartments (Fort Worth)
  • These apartments at 210-14 St. Louis Ave. were added on May 2, 2001.

• Marrow Bone Spring Archeological Site (Arlington)
  • This important archeological site in Vandergriff Park was listed on November 21, 1978. Its exact location is kept private to protect it.

• Masonic Widows and Orphans Home Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This district, roughly bounded by E. Berry St. and Mitchell Blvd., was recognized on January 28, 1992.

• Miller Manufacturing Company Building (Fort Worth)
  • This building at 311 Bryan Ave. was added on October 28, 2010.

• Montgomery Ward and Company Building (Fort Worth)
  • This large building at 801 Grove St. was listed on November 19, 1998.

• Morning Chapel Colored Methodist Episcopal Church (Fort Worth)
  • This church at 901 E. Third St. was recognized on August 27, 1999.

• Thomas J. and Elizabeth Nash Farm (Grapevine)
  • This historic farm at 626 Ball St. in Grapevine was added on October 28, 2010. It's a great example of an old farm.

• Near Southeast Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This district, roughly bounded by New York Ave. and E. Terrell Ave., was listed on April 26, 2002.

• North Fort Worth High School (Fort Worth)
  • This school at 600 Park St. was recognized on February 2, 1995.

• Oakhurst Historic District (Fort Worth)
  • This district, roughly bounded by Yucca Ave. and Sylvania Ave., was added on February 24, 2010.

• Old Town Historic District (Arlington)
  • This historic district in Arlington, roughly bounded by Sanford and Elm Sts., was listed on March 23, 2000.

• Original Town Residential Historic District (Grapevine)
  • This residential district in Grapevine, roughly bounded by Texas and Austin Sts., was recognized on July 10, 1998.

• Our Lady of Victory Academy (Fort Worth)
  • This academy at 801 W. Shaw St. was added on August 20, 2004.

• Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and Parsonage (Fort Worth)
  • This church and parsonage at 1100 and 1104 Evans Ave. were listed on July 22, 1999.
