How the Museum Started
The museum first opened its doors in 2015. Back then, it was called the National Videogame Arcade. It was located in a different city, Nottingham. It was the very first place in the world completely focused on video games as a cultural experience.
In 2018, the museum moved to its current home. It found a new spot in Castle House in Sheffield. When it moved, it also got a new name: the National Videogame Museum.
The museum celebrated its fifth birthday in November 2023. That year was its busiest ever! More than 50,000 people visited the museum at Castle House.
