Natuashish is a special community in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is home to the Mushuau Innu First Nation, who are part of the Innu people. Natuashish became an official federal Indian reserve in 2003. This means it is a piece of land set aside for the use and benefit of a First Nation.
About Natuashish: A New Beginning
Natuashish, which means "Little Sango Pond," was created in 2002. It was a planned community built to help the Innu people. Before this, many Innu lived in a place called Davis Inlet, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) away. The idea behind Natuashish was to offer a fresh start and a better environment for the community.
Population and Community Life
In 2021, the population of Natuashish was 856 people. This was a small decrease from 938 people in 2016. The community works to build a strong future for its residents.
Getting to Natuashish
Natuashish is not connected by roads to other towns. You can only reach this community by air or by sea. The Natuashish Airport serves as the main way for people to fly in and out. This makes Natuashish quite unique and remote.
