Naty Abascal's Early Life and Career

Naty Abascal was born in Seville, Spain. Her journey into the fashion world began in 1964. Spanish fashion designer Elio Berhanyer asked Naty and her twin sister, Ana Maria, to model his clothes. This happened at an exhibition in New York.

A famous photographer named Richard Avedon noticed them. He decided to photograph them in Ibiza later that year. These photos were for an article in Harper's Bazaar magazine. By 1965, Naty Abascal was on the cover of Harper's Bazaar. After this, her modeling career really took off. She then moved to New York to continue her work.

Working with Famous Designers

Naty worked with many top designers. One of her first jobs was with Oscar de la Renta. They became very close friends. This friendship lasted for many years.

In 1968, Naty met designer Valentino. She was 25 years old and already a successful model. Valentino took her to the island of Capri for photo shoots. They have been close friends ever since. Naty also worked for well-known modeling agencies like Ford and Wilhelmina.

Film Roles and Other Projects

In 1971, Naty Abascal had a small part in a movie. She played a character named Yolanda in Woody Allen's film Bananas.

A few years later, in 1974, she made a commercial for Alka-Seltzer. She worked with the famous artist Salvador Dalí on this project. The commercial showed Dalí painting Naty's body. It was not very successful and was quickly removed from public view.

Life in Spain and Family

Towards the end of 1975, Naty returned to her home in Seville, Spain. She reconnected with an old friend from her teenage years. His name was Rafael Medina y Fernandez de Cordoba. He was the Duke of Feria and Marquis of Villalba.

They got married in July 1977. Naty and Rafael had two sons together. Their first son, Rafael, was born in 1978. He is now the Duke of Feria. Their second son, Luis, was born in 1980. Naty and Rafael later divorced in 1989.

Later Fashion Work

Even after leaving the fashion world, Naty made a special appearance. In the early 1980s, she walked the runway for her friend Carolina Herrera's first collection. This was her last time on the catwalk.

In 1982, photographer Norman Parkinson took pictures of her in the Caribbean. In 1987, Lord Snowdon also photographed her in Seville.

Naty Abascal Today

Naty Abascal is known as one of Valentino's "muses." A muse is someone who inspires an artist or designer. She also has strong connections to designers like Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.
