History of Navarino

The town of Navarino was not always known by this name. It used to be called Mayville. On December 1, 1874, its name was officially changed to Navarino.

Why the Name Navarino?

It is believed that the town was named after an important historical event: the Battle of Navarino. This battle took place on October 20, 1827. It was a naval battle fought between the Ottoman Empire and a combined navy from Britain, Russia, and France.
