Contents
Navarre has an interesting history, especially with its connection to trains.
The Railroad's Arrival
In 1887, a company called the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway built a train line. This line went through Navarre. It connected Neva (which is west of Strong City) all the way to Superior, Nebraska.
Later, in 1996, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway joined with another company, the Burlington Northern Railroad. Together, they became what is now known as the BNSF Railway. Even today, many local people still call this train line the "Santa Fe."
Post Office and Church History
Navarre used to have its own post office. It opened on February 7, 1884. However, it closed down many years later, on September 3, 1971.
There was also a church in Navarre called the Navarre Church of the Brethren. It was started way back in 1869. The church held its very last "Homecoming Service" in August 2001. After that, the church bell was given to the Navarre cemetery.
