Neals Run is a small, quiet community in Hampshire County, West Virginia. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Neals Run is located south of Little Cacapon. It sits where the Little Cacapon River and Neals Run stream meet, on Spring Gap-Neals Run Road. The community gets its name from the nearby stream.
The Story Behind the Name
Neals Run was once known by a different name: Cacapehon. This older name was used until April 15, 1925. On that date, the local post office changed its name to Neals Run.
Why the Name Changed
The name "Cacapehon" is an old way of spelling "Cacapon." The community was called this because it was very close to the Little Cacapon River. Today, people who live there call it Neals Run. However, if you look at many topographic maps or road maps, you might still see the name Cacapehon.
