He hosted Meet the Press on television from 1953 to 1965. Before that, he hosted it on radio. Ned Brooks was the second-longest serving moderator of the program. Only Tim Russert hosted it for more years.

Early Life and Education

Ned Brooks was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Warren, Ohio, where he went to public schools. In 1924, he graduated from The Ohio State University. While there, he joined a group called Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

Starting His Journalism Career

Brooks began his career writing for newspapers in Ohio. He worked for the Ohio State Journal and for Scripps-Howard newspapers. From 1932 to 1947, he reported on Congress for these newspapers. This meant he covered important news happening in the U.S. government.

For five years, he was also the managing editor of the Youngstown (Ohio) Telegram. This job meant he helped manage the newspaper's daily operations.

From Radio to Television

Later in his career, Ned Brooks became a broadcaster. He worked on a radio show called Three-Star Extra on NBC radio.

His most famous role was as the moderator of Meet the Press. This show invites important people, like politicians, to answer questions from journalists. Brooks helped guide these discussions, making sure everyone had a chance to speak. He was a key part of the show for many years.
