The Neet Covered Bridge is a special kind of bridge built in 1904. It crosses the Little Raccoon Creek near Rockville, Indiana. A famous builder named Joseph J. Daniels constructed it. This bridge is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This means it's a historic landmark worth protecting!

Building the Neet Bridge

The Neet Covered Bridge uses a special design called a Burr Arch. This design helps make the bridge very strong. It has a single span, meaning it crosses the creek in one long section.

A well-known bridge builder named Joseph J. Daniels built this bridge. He was 78 years old when he worked on the Neet Bridge. This was one of the last bridges he officially built.

Why is it called Neet Bridge?

The bridge is named after the Neet family. Joseph W. Neet owned a lot of land nearby. George M. Neet also rented land close to the bridge.

Sometimes, the bridge is also called the Dietrich Bridge. This is because Robert E. Detrich later owned property near the bridge.

Community Care for the Bridge

People in the community help take care of the Neet Covered Bridge. In 1989, a group of Boy Scouts from Rockville Troop 469 helped repaint the bridge. They used four gallons of paint to keep it looking good!

Local neighbors also help maintain the bridge and the area around it. This shows how much people value this historic structure.
